"The poet, the painter, the sculptor, the musician, the architect, seek each to concentrate this radiance of the world on one point, and each in his several work to satisfy the love of beauty which stimulates him to produce."

- Ralph Waldo Emerson

It's magical to materialize your thoughts into a physical object. It's this wonderous aspect of creation that continues to uplift and inspire me: something from nothing - the ethereal made real.

Metal is such a fascinating medium. We take these seemingly unyielding substances and cut, forge and use extreme heat to shape this material to our ideal. It's very exciting when, through this purported chaos, one yields viable and orderly results (for the most part, permanent) that are graceful and pleasing in form, feel and color.

My current approach is to take one feature or characteristic and use it in as many ways possible. I like to think of it as a composer who creates "variations on a theme". It's the development and evolution of one core element that retains the essential idea from which these new forms emerge.
